Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to the questions we hear most often. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, please contact us. We’re always happy to talk, and there’s no such thing as a silly question.

About WKG Foundation

What is WKG Foundation?

WKG Foundation is a purpose-driven social enterprise. We help people navigating visible, invisible and dynamic disabilities, health challenges, caregiving responsibilities, or life transitions build flexible, inclusive careers and businesses.

We provide mentorship and coaching, online courses and training, community and events, and microgrants for tools and resources. All of it is completely free, because we want you focused on your future, not on the cost of getting there.

What does “invisible disability” mean?

An invisible disability is a condition that isn’t obvious just by looking at someone. It can include chronic pain, autoimmune conditions, mental health conditions, fatigue, and conditions that vary in intensity.

Because these conditions aren’t visible, people living with them are often assumed to be perfectly well, and their needs get overlooked. Most disability programs and imagery focus on visible disabilities, which leaves a lot of people without support. Closing that gap is a big part of why we’re here.

What is a “dynamic disability”?

A dynamic disability is one where your capacity changes. It can shift from day to day, or even hour to hour. You might manage a full day of work one day and need to rest the next, and that’s completely okay.

This is exactly why our programs are self-paced and flexible. You move at whatever speed works for you, and pausing is never a problem.

Why was WKG Foundation started?

Our founder, Lucy Kovalova-Woods, spent years helping people and businesses grow. After facing serious health challenges of her own, she saw first-hand how quickly a change in health can disrupt a career, and how few real options exist for people whose capacity has changed.

We believe no one should be left behind because of a life-changing event. A change in health should never mean the end of meaningful, self-directed work.

Who We Help

Who can join WKG Foundation programs?

Our programs are open to:

  • People with visible, invisible and dynamic disabilities
  • People navigating chronic health conditions
  • Caregivers seeking flexible career options
  • Employers who want to make a real impact

We deliberately don’t require a specific diagnosis or label. If changed work capacity is affecting your career, you belong here.

Do I need a formal diagnosis or documentation to take part?

No. We don’t ask you to prove or document a diagnosis to access our programs. We know getting a diagnosis can take years, and that formal disability processes are often slow and difficult to navigate. We’d rather help you now, while you need it.

Can caregivers take part?

Yes. Caring for someone with a serious health condition can affect your own career and income just as much. Caregivers are genuinely welcome here too.

Is there an age requirement?

Our programs are primarily for people aged 19 and older. Younger participants may be considered case by case, with permission from a parent or guardian.

Our Free Solutions

What do you offer?

Our complete solution includes four parts:

  • Mentorship and coaching: one-on-one guidance from experienced professionals
  • Online courses and training programs: flexible, self-paced skill building
  • Community and events: connection with people on similar paths
  • Microgrants for tools and resources: help covering equipment and software

Is it really free?

Yes, our solutions are 100% free for participants. We’re funded through grants, sponsorships, partnerships, donations, and fundraising, and that’s what keeps everything free for the people we serve.

What kind of skills do you teach?

We focus on flexible, self-directed ways of earning a living, including skills for remote and flexible work, freelancing and the gig economy, and starting a small business, often built around something you already know or love.

Our programs are developed by experienced professionals with input from psychologists, so the format works for people managing health conditions, not just the subject matter.

How are courses delivered?

Courses are delivered online through our learning platform and work on mobile devices, so you can take part from home, from bed, or wherever you feel most comfortable.

You can browse what’s currently available on our courses page.

Do I have to keep up with a fixed schedule?

No. Self-paced options exist specifically so you can move at your own speed. If you need to pause and come back later, that’s completely fine. We built it that way on purpose, because life doesn’t always go according to plan.

Do you help with equipment or software costs?

Yes. Through microgrants for tools and resources, we help participants cover the cost of equipment, software, and other tools needed to start a new career or business.

Will you find me a job?

We offer job placement support and career counseling and mentorship, and we work directly with employers who want to offer genuinely flexible opportunities.

That said, we’re not a traditional recruitment agency. Our focus is on giving you the skills, confidence, and tools to build work on your own terms, whether that’s freelancing, self-employment, or a flexible role.

Getting Started

How do I sign up?

You can register directly on our sign up page. You’ll be able to join as a client or student, and access your courses through your dashboard.

If you have questions before signing up, please get in touch first. There’s no pressure either way, we’re simply happy to help.

Can I volunteer or become a mentor?

Yes. We welcome volunteers, instructors, and mentors, especially freelancers, industry professionals, creators, psychologists, and career advisors. You can register as an instructor or mentor on our sign up page.

How can organisations partner with or sponsor WKG Foundation?

We work with partner organisations, sponsors, and employers who want to support flexible, inclusive pathways to work. Visit our for employers page, or contact us to talk about working together.

How can I support the Foundation?

Because our programs are free, we rely on support to keep them running. You can donate, volunteer your time and skills, partner with us as an organisation, or simply share our work with someone who might need it.

Which countries do you serve?

Our initial focus is Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, with plans to expand into more regions and languages over time. Because our programs are online, we’re able to reach people well beyond a single city.

Is your website accessible?

Accessibility matters deeply to us, and we work continuously to make our site and courses usable for everyone. You can read more on our accessibility page.

If you run into a barrier anywhere on our site, please tell us. We want to know, and we’ll fix it.

How is my personal information handled?

We treat your information carefully and only collect what we genuinely need to support you. You’re never required to share details about your health or diagnosis in order to take part in our programs.

Still have questions? We’d rather hear from you than have you wonder.
